Encaustic, Paintings

“Charles”

Inspiration & Technique

18ā€ x 24ā€
Encaustic on wood
This is a portrait of my grandfather, Charles. I wanted this painting to show his weathered skin as he was a bricklayer until the age of 70 (the oldest on record in the state of Missouri at the time). He was a WWII Marine veteran. He lost his only son from hospital negligence at the young age of 17. He raised my sister and I and taught us how to be survivors in this world. He was my hero and this portrait shows a glimpse of his soul. I can go on and on about what a great man he was, how strong he was, how he helped so many people become better versions of themselves but Iā€™m gonna let this painting speak for itself.
