“The Return of the White Buffalo Goddess”

Inspiration & Technique

The White Buffalo Goddess is a legend originally started from the Lakota tribe. She represents abundance, fertility, prosperity, change, and the coming together of all the races. I wanted to create a painting that tied her together with the constellations as she was thought to have been a “Star” person. If you look closely all the zodiac and major constellations are part of this painting. I also added the cross that bears all the colors of races, white, yellow, black, and red which is part of the legend.

I always start a painting with a drawing, followed by a monochromatic under-painting. I then apply thin layers of oils to createe depth.
